Ladies, I want to empower you.  The gentlemen in my life… I love you, and please don’t take any offense to this.

My mom showed me a Sun article yesterday, and at first I rolled my eyed because well it’s the Sun…  need I say more.  I was busy studying so she left it on my desk for me to read and said “you were right all along”.  I Finally got around to reading it today.  Please, please, please read this ladies!

This article is what I live my life by, it always has been.

Not one single woman needs a man to take care of them.  We can do it ourselves!

xo – All the beautiful ladies in my life, I love you.

p.s. perhaps this is why boys are intimidated by me?  Haha.

I did it!  I officially cleaned out my beauty arsenal.  That’s right, I pretty much threw money down the drain in aspirations of ridding myself of paraben and other harmful substances.  Now you are all probably wondering why I did this?  Well fairly recently my family has been on somewhat of a “live better” approach to life.  And this consisted of taking a better look at what we are putting on ourselves everyday.  It all started with playing “where’s waldo” with the ingredient “paraben” and absolutely every piece of soap, lotion and cosmetic known to my household and their ingredient lists.

After this, I took it upon myself to do a little of my own research and I found a really good web-site that consists of a database of all harmful substances in which beauty products may contain.  Please visit http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/ if you are interested.  I know I spent quite a few hours on it this weekend just researching products.

So anyways, to be more specific, I threw out most of my eye-shadows, lip glosses and pretty-smelling lotions and in exchange started purchasing mineral make-up, natural and chemical free moisturizers, and aluminum free deodorants.  It didn’t take me long to realize being healthier is a bit more expensive than bargain hunting for pretty beauty products.  But in the end, I think it will be worth it.  I will let you all know in a few days, weeks, months just how I feel – and that my friends will be the basis of whether or not going natural has instant benefits.  I know results of my decision to use more natural and chemical-free products will not show for years, but I like to think that I will feel the benefits a whole lot sooner.

Let’s start with a beauty review (I know already?):

I used Bare Escentuals a while back, and totally fell in love with it – back then I only tried the foundation though.  This time around I decided to buy the whole starter kit (hence the whole spending a pretty penny for more natural products from the previous paragraphs).  You can find this line at your local Sephora, and let me tell you, it feels so natural on your face.  It’s not like liquid foundations where it feels like your wearing a mask.   And best of all – and honestly what sold me – their makeup (minus a few products) is essentially paraben free!  :D  I’ll let you know in a few weeks how this brand is working out for me.  For now, check out their website!  http://www.bareescentuals.com/  Most of the products can be found on sephora.com as well.  I find sephora to be ubber helpful (and this goes for any brand really) because almost every single product on there has customer reviews.  I find these reviews super helpful because the women using this stuff are like me (not a professional cosmetics associate), and if they are finding it hard to use or impossible to apply – chances are I will find the same result.

So I stayed up to watch 24, and I figured I would stay up a little while longer to be the first to wish my wonderful friend Winkie a wonderful birthday.  Only 24 minutes to go.  Hahaha How ironic!  I’m pretty tired though, trying to battle this cold and all.  Must… stay… up…

Okay so here is the official launch of kimmyland!  I am so excited to have my own little space.  :D  Thanks to Phil, my big brother, he got me all up and running here in kimmyland.  So a big thanks to him!

So the U.S. is about to have a new president tomorrow!  I am looking forward to seeing what Obama has to offer the U.S. and the rest of the world.

Up Close and Personal: Part One

January 18th, 2009 Posted 7:23 am

I haven’t really posted much about my personal life, but now that I am here and since my intro line is “up close and personal” I feel it is time to express how I feel at this point in time in my life.

I am in love.  And the best part is that I am in love with a wonderful man.  Yes, we’ve been through high’s and low’s (but who hasn’t really?) but overall I believe we have done everything right.  Taken things slow, both listened when we needed each other to, and held and hugged one another when needed.  We’ve never had to break up over a fight, nor have we ever taken (or in fact had any reason to) a break.  It helps that we don’t believe in breaks, but nonetheless, we’ve had a strong and healthy relationship.

The things that I love him for:

His sensitivity.  I love how he is patient with me, whether it be me complaining about my day, helping me pick out the right shade of make-up (that was today btw), or sitting through 2 hours or a sappy movie that he clearly would never have picked in a million years.  I love him for this.

His sense of humour.  Now this is important!  (For me anyways)  Ever since the day I met him he has kept me laughing.  Everyday of our relationship he has made me laugh.  Ask any person he has ever come across and they will tell you what a riot he is.  I know I give him a hard time for his “trademark” cackle, but deep down I see how much joy it brings our friends when he does it, and to be honest, I frankly find it pretty amusing myself.  (Mike if you ever read this, please don’t EVER rub this in my face)  The fact that he can put a smile on my face, makes him so incredibly attractive.  I love him for this.

His brains.  The secret to a fulfilled and lasting relationship is to have the ability to actually talk about stuff.  ”Stuff” as in actual real world events, ideas, and topics.  Not “he said, she said” type of material, but rather current events, feelings and emotions, and (heaven forbid) politics.  I say this because we usually disagree, but hey!  it’s boring when things never get heated up.  He isn’t scared to disagree with me.  I love him for this.

His ambition.  See, now if this was lacking, I’m sure our partnership would not have worked out.  I find it is easier to work in a solid relationship when you both have similar goals and aspirations.  In our case we both have aspirations to be successful.  Getting educations in hope of someday living the “life”.  I cannot express how proud I am of him.  He has a great job that he had to work his ass (pardon my french *blush*) off for.  I never doubted for one second that this would not work out for him.  With his intelligence, he is a great business man, and with his great sense of humour and interpersonal skills, he could win over any heart in the business world.  I love him for this.

So this is the end of Part One for UC and P.  Stay tuned for the next part!  xo
